Last Words combines sculpture, installation and performance to create a participatory work that places the body at the centre. Participants are drawn into the installation in a respectful but playful way, with options to view, physically enter, or speak and/or listen via the listening post. The work explores the effect of architecture and space on communication, using sound to challenge our acoustemologies, create new narratives, and imprint memories extending beyond the visual. Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s poem Do not go gentle into that good night, Last Words addresses our fear of darkness, isolation, life, death, the unconscious, and the uncanny.
